How to quickly get a passport and identity card at the Public Service Center

Summer is the time for vacations and travel. It is for this reason that in the summer, in the public service centers of Kazakhstan, the flow of clients who apply for identification cards and passports increases.

Over the six months of 2022, 1,353,590 identity cards and passports were issued to Kazakhstanis. Moreover, the largest number was issued in June – 266,668 documents. We tell you how to get a passport and identity card at the Public Service Center as comfortably and quickly as possible.

Receiving a passport

Passport and ID services are not yet available online. To obtain these documents, you must contact the Public Service Center. In this case, the service is provided on the principle of extraterritoriality - you can contact any PSC, regardless of your place of registration.

At public service centers, the service for issuing identity cards and passports is provided by migration service employees.

If you are applying for a passport for the first time, you will only need an identification document. If your passport is about to expire, you can replace it 1-2 months before it expires. If you applied for a new passport after the expiration of the old one, there are no late fees. When submitting an application, a PSC employee will take your photo for documents on site.

The state fee for the production of a passport is 8 MCI (the MCI established on January 1, 2022 is considered) or (24,504 tenge). The standard period for providing services is 15 working days. If desired, you can speed up the process with an additional payment. Residents of Nur-Sultan, Almaty, Shymkent and Aktobe can speed up the process from three to one working day according to this scheme:

1 category of urgency - up to 1 working day - 4,983 tenge;

Urgency category 2 – up to 3 working days - 2,752 tenge.

A different scheme applies for regional centers:

1 category of urgency - up to 3 working days - 4,983 tenge;

Urgency category 2 - up to 5 working days - 2,752 tenge.

And for districts and regional cities, only the third category is available: up to 7 working days with an additional payment of 1,116 tenge.

When applying for a passport for a child, you must provide the child’s birth certificate and pay a fee. One parent must be present.

Identification

Citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan receive an identity card when they reach 16 years of age. Upon reaching this age, the document must be received within a month, otherwise a fine of 7 MCI or (21,441 tenge) is provided. You will pay the same fine if you do not receive a new certificate within a month after the old one expires. Moreover, if you pay the fine within a week, the amount will be 50% lower. If you have a passport, you must also take it with you when applying for your ID.

At the same time, the state duty for an identity card is only 0.2 MCI or 613 tenge.

You can speed up the service using the same procedure as with a passport. In addition, there is a preferential category of clients who are exempt from paying state fees for issuing IDs and passports. This:

  • WWII veterans and persons equivalent to them;
  • Heroes of the Soviet Union and Socialist Labor;
  • disabled people of all groups, as well as one of the parents of a disabled child or disabled child;
  • elderly people living in institutions for the elderly and for the disabled;
  • orphans and children left without parental care living in orphanages or boarding schools;
  • mothers with many children, awarded the title “Mother Heroine”, awarded with “Altyn alka” and “Kumis alka” pendants;
  • citizens affected by the Chernobyl disaster.

We ask clients to update their documents in a timely manner so as not to pay fines and to book their visit to the Public Service Center in advance.
